Alpine landscapes, glacier views and one remarkable naturist hotel tucked into the mountains of Styria.
Austria Β· Naturist directory
Austria is not the first country that comes to mind for naturist travel β but it should be. Hidden in the Styrian Alps, there is a property that has been quietly welcoming naturists for years, set against one of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in Europe. Summer or winter, it delivers.
Tucked into the Ramsau am Dachstein plateau in the heart of Styria β about 90 kilometres from Salzburg β Landhaus LΓΌhrmann holds a distinction no other property in the country can claim: it is Austria's only naturist hotel. The LΓΌhrmann family has run it for years with the kind of warmth and personal attention that only genuinely passionate hosts can offer, and their love for naturism shows in every detail.
The setting is extraordinary. Old maple trees frame the garden, the Dachstein glacier and the peaks of the Schladminger Tauern are visible from the pool, and the air is as clean as mountain air gets. The 14-room hotel offers a wellness area with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam bath and infrared cabin β all available naturist in summer, with dedicated nude bathing hours in winter. In the warmer months, naturism extends to the garden lawn and the sun terrace. Clothing is required inside the hotel and the restaurant at all times.
The food is a serious highlight. Breakfast is a full buffet, afternoons bring homemade cake with coffee or tea, and evening dinners span Styrian classics, Austrian favourites and international menus β most sourced from local organic farms. This region has one of the highest concentrations of organic producers in Europe, and it shows on the plate. The wine cellar holds a curated selection of Austrian quality wines, and tastings are offered regularly.
Summer brings hiking, rafting, mountain biking, paragliding, golf and horse riding β and the owner often joins guests on group excursions. The Dachstein Summer Card provides free access to regional cable cars, buses, pools and museums. Winter transforms the landscape entirely: the hotel sits directly on Ramsau's cross-country ski trail network, and the 4-Mountain Ski Circuit at Schladming-Ramsau offers over 230 kilometres of slopes just minutes away.
Our love for naturism doesn't stop at South Africa's borders. If you know of a destination we should add to this directory, we would love to hear from you.
